FAQs

Welcome to Qi Synergy Acupuncture – Your Gateway to Holistic Health and Wellness!

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Qi Synergy Acupuncture FAQ page! Here, we aim to answer your most common questions about our primary healthcare services and how we can help you achieve optimal well-being.

1. What services do you offer at Qi Synergy Acupuncture?

At Qi Synergy Acupuncture, we provide a wide range of holistic healthcare services, including Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Functional Medicine, Nutrition, Supplements, lab tests, and natural healing techniques. Our comprehensive approach is designed to address your unique health needs.

2. What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the most complete medical systems in the world. Originating in China approximately, 5000 years ago, not only is it the oldest continuously practiced medicine in the world, but is also evidence-based, time-tested, and supported by both ancient and modern sciences. The World Health Organization has endorsed acupuncture for the treatment of over 40 different health alignments including chronic pain, migraines, digestive disorders, arthritis, allergies, depression, the common cold, and stress. Only in the last three decades has it become popular in the United States.

3. How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncturists insert very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate and strengthen muscles and bolster the body’s innate healing capacities. Your body may respond by activating intracellular receptors and the neurological system blood circulation, releasing endorphins, and/or regulating your nervous system. All of these reactions help to create and maintain a state in which the body can function optimally, get into homeostasis and activate healing processes. Chinese Medicine believes that no two people and no two diseases are the same.

4. What does acupuncture feel like?

We are dedicated to making acupuncture a comfortable, beneficial, and relaxing experience for all patients. Acupuncture needles are about as thin as human hair and feel completely different from the hypodermic needles on syringes used in doctors’ offices. Generally, the needles do not hurt upon insertion. However, there are certain points that are more sensitive than others. If at any point during the treatment you are uncomfortable or are experiencing pain, simply let the practitioner know and the needles will be adjusted.

5. What is Electro-Acupuncture?

As in traditional acupuncture, needles are inserted into specific points along the body. These needles are then attached to a device that generates continuous electric pulses using small clips. This stimulation releases endogenous opiates called enkephalins which are amazing natural pain killers. They also have an antispasmodic effect that relaxes soft tissues. The ionic current increases micro-stimulation reduces inflammation and accelerates the healing process.

6. What are the benefits?

The benefits of Acupuncture include pain relief, stress reduction, improved energy levels, and overall well-being. It's a safe and effective therapy with a long history of success.

7. What is the pricing for your Acupuncture sessions?

9. What is herbal medicine?

Herbs are a safe and natural treatment for many common health conditions. Chinese herbs are prescribed by our board-certified herbalists and are dispensed as formulas, specially created to treat your symptoms as well as your constitutional diagnosis.

Modern clinical studies have confirmed the effectiveness of many herbal remedies.

Our practitioners at Qi Synergy Acupuncture may include herbal medicine as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.  Chinese herbal formulas complement acupuncture treatments with faster results.

All these types of herbal medicines are certified, natural, safe, and affordable ways for you as a patient to continue your care in between appointments.

10. What is cupping?

Cupping is an effective way to improve soft tissue in conditions when traditional pressure like massage may be aggravating. The practice of cupping has been used for thousands of years and continues to be a common medical intervention in traditional Chinese medicine. Cupping involves creating a negative pressure inside the cup which lifts and separates the tissue underneath the cup. This releases and loosens up the interfaces between the soft-tissues such as skin, fascia, neural tissues, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Sometimes the cup is left still over a particularly tight muscle or moved around to further assist tissue stimulation.

11. What should I expect on my first visit?

Welcome!  I am honored that you have entrusted me with your healthcare needs and look forward to partnering with you as you seek greater health and start your healing process. Because this system of healthcare is unlike other types of care you’ve received, it is natural to have questions.  I assure you that at Qi Synergy Acupuncture your health is taken seriously and our patients are treated respectfully and not as a number. A completely non-discriminating, and non-judgmental place to start your journey.

Please read on for more information about what to expect.

You should take your regular medications prior to and during the course of your acupuncture treatment.  As your condition improves, you may be able to reduce or eliminate medications, but this should only be done with the advice and consent of your MD.

Depending on the complexity of your health concern, your initial appointment will last 60-90 minutes.

Subsequent sessions will last 45-60 minutes.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing with pants that can be rolled up to the knee.

Out of consideration for other patients (many of whom are sensitive to odors and chemicals) please do not wear perfume, cologne, strongly scented lotion, or insect repellant when you come for your appointment.

It is best to eat a light meal or snack an hour or two prior to your appointment – you will be most comfortable if you are neither hungry nor stuffed.

The practitioner will feel your pulse, check your tong and might palpate your abdomen as those are the methods of diagnosis used in Chinese Medicine. If your treatment requires your back or stomach to be exposed, your practitioner will drape you with a sheet for your comfort and privacy.

During and after your treatment you may feel relaxed, slightly “spacey”, or pleasantly energized.  Some people feel nothing at all.  All of these reactions are considered normal.

You can return to work or your regular responsibilities after your treatment, but it is best to avoid heavy physical exertion and other forms of bodywork (massage, chiropractic, or yoga) for 12-18 hours after your acupuncture session.

You may notice relief of your health concern in the hours or days following your session or it may take several sessions to experience a change.  In the majority of cases, a clear benefit is evident within 3-4 sessions (although more sessions may be required to thoroughly resolve the problem).

In most instances, weekly treatment for four to six weeks will be recommended, but in some cases more frequent treatment is helpful.  You will be given more detailed information about the projected course of treatment for your condition at your appointment.  It is my goal to wrap up your treatment as quickly as possible – you will not be pressured to continue coming for treatment indefinitely.

In less than 5% of cases, patients experience an aggravation of symptoms for 24-48 hours following treatment.  This is a good sign that the treatment is working and is almost always followed by significant improvement.  This type of healing reaction is more likely to occur in sensitive, intuitive, or highly strung people; in people with a history of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse; and/or in individuals who are in the habit of “stuffing” negative emotions.  If any of these factors are applicable to you, please alert me so that I can approach your treatment will particular sensitivity (you will not be asked to reveal or discuss details of this aspect of your history unless you wish to).

Please feel free to let me know if you have questions or concerns!

12. Will my insurance cover my treatment?

At this time Qi Synergy Acupuncture does not take insurance. A Superbill can be provided and because our services are recognized as effective and evidence-based, they are often covered by insurance. Coverage varies from policy to policy.

If you have any insurance coverage-related questions please contact your insurance provider.

13. Do you offer online consultations for out-of-state or international patients?

Yes, we do! We provide online consultations to ensure that distance is not a barrier to your well-being. You can receive expert guidance and personalized recommendations from our practitioners from anywhere in the world.

14. What are the additional services offered by Qi Synergy Acupuncture?
